Heaven Road Studio began as a passing interest in, and speculation as to how a local talk show my wife co-hosted could look better on the television when it was aired. I thought the beginning was embarrassingly cheesy, and the video quality exceptionally grainy and gray. I didn’t know anything about the effort required. I just knew it could have been better. I wanted it to be better for her sake.
I also didn’t know anything about audio, video, graphic animation, scheduling, directing, formatting, or delivery. I never even remotely contemplated buying cameras, and lights, and mics, and building a studio. But that's how it ended up.
It all began when I asked the first question, which led to another, then another. And then I was hooked.
I know lots more than I did 10 years ago, but don’t know I would have become involved in the first place if I’d known what I know now. Well, that’s not exactly true. I would have. But so much of what I’ve learned has been through trial and errors – lots of errors. I would have been nice to go to school – the software available these days is incredible - or to have interned if I’d had any idea what the future held.
But once the creative juices flowed there was no turning back. Now it’s a passion with lots of frustrations. Patience and flexibility are key for me. And it helps that I like to solve puzzles and problems. That’s my career in the Navy showing through.
Linda writes the scripts, does the casting calls, acts, caters, and cleans, and does the walk-throughs when I’m having equipment problems, or lighting issues. Our skills, such as they are, complement each other, and we spend a lot of time working together and (mostly) having fun.
